For years, lead-based PVC stabilizers played a crucial role in stabilizing rigid PVC, catering to various applications like drainage pipes and profiles. However, with increasing environmental concerns the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗩𝗖 under the EU’s REACH regulation. With this regulation, the EU PVC industry has completely 𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗘𝗨-27 Member States.

The restriction not only 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 in PVC products but also 𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 of the PVC industry.

Lead-free stabilizers present several 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 over their lead-based counterparts:

✅ 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁-𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆: Lead-free stabilizers are a breakthrough technology that aligns with our commitment to a greener future.

✅ 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵: While lead-based stabilizers offered excellent long-term heat stability, they carried potential health risks due to lead’s toxic nature. Lead-free stabilizers eliminate these concerns, ensuring a safer working environment.

✅ 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Despite being costlier than lead-based options, lead-free stabilizers provide high heat and light stability. Calcium-Zinc (Ca-Zn) stabilizers, in particular, offer aesthetic and excellent weathering properties, surpassing lead-based stabilizers in performance.

✅ 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Ca-Zn stabilizers exhibit synergistic effects, allowing manufacturers to tailor the heat stability of PVC, optimizing performance for specific applications.
